Artist Statement
Toronto based artist, Gina D’Aloisio utilizes interdisciplinary sculpture and installation, her primary material focuses are hyperreal mould making and found objects.
My work is a reflection of the times, it pokes fun at and seriously contemplates the world we live in. I often use the human body, which I replicate with silicone in conjunction with found objects. I do this because the abject skin-like quality of silicone allows viewers to have a physical reaction to my work, while the selected common and everyday objects, call people to question their physical surroundings. By using irony to destabilize these known forms in my work, I am also destabilizing my viewer.
